Planning a wedding on a holiday can be especially tricky. Planning a SURPRISE wedding ceremony on a holiday, now that is taking things to a whole new level. When I first met Acklyn and Rorick at a small bridal show in Lee’s Summit, I was intrigued at their idea. As I got to know them both better and hear how their ideas were taking shape I was ecstatic. The ruse was that they would be hosting Thanksgiving Dinner for their closest family and friends to celebrate their engagement. Little did all of these guests know, but Acklyn and Rorick were actually planning to surprise them all and get married right on the spot. Only the pastor, the best man, and the maid of honor knew what was coming.
The morning of Thanksgiving the excitement was high and the day was clear and beautiful. Acklyn had originally planned on wearing a casual dress for the ceremony and following party, but decided that a formal gown and an official walk down the aisle would mean a lot to her family. Her details were gorgeous and classic and all of the decor centered around her love for the fall and her favorite holiday. As everyone arrived and settled in for a Thanksgiving feast at Bliss Plaza, Acklyn finished getting ready and pulled up outside. Rorick stood before their families and softly at first mentioned how grateful they both were for everyone coming to their special dinner, but then proceeded to tell them that they had actually come to a destination wedding. The gasps were audible throughout the room as the shock completely swept through and everyone registered what was happening. The pastor asked everyone to rise and in walked Acklyn looking like a dream. There were more than a few tears shed over such a happy surprise and the special feelings of the holiday were amplified by the union of two special people. Enjoy!
From our bride Acklyn:
Favorite Moment of the Day: When I was getting dressed my cousin brought a gift to my dressing room and it was a picture of my grandmother in a gold frame. My grandmother and I were very close. She passed in October of 2012. I asked her to place the picture on our head table so I could honor her on my special day!
Inspiration for the wedding: Fall is my favorite time of the year and Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays. Also, my grandmother got married in the Fall.
Advice to brides planning in the future: Start early and stay focused and enjoy the moment.
