Everything about this bohemian wedding inspiration shoot makes me happy. The bright bold colors mixed with vintage finds that gives the whole shoot a sense of whimsy and comfort. The way that the inspiration for the entire shoot came together one quiet afternoon while chatting with friends. The amazing team of Kansas City wedding professionals that I have the honor of working with and the pleasure of calling friends. Our darling models, the Satterfields, who being newlyweds themselves were so willing to bring their charm and love to light up our shoot. The Wynbrick Event Center
for letting us take over their gorgeous space and for Amy rocking my tiny assistant to sleep so that we could capture the sunset. Ink Magazine
for seeing our vision and being excited to share it with their readers. And Beth who is not only a planner extraordinaire, but a past bride whose own wedding was simply stunning. Enjoy!
The mind behind the inspiration, Beth Chappelow:
The initial inspiration came when Deanna and I were at an open house for The Wynbrick earlier this year. We both loved the vintage feel of the space and wanted to help them showcase all of the restoration work they had completed. Then Deanna said, “Wouldn’t it be fun to do a vintage theme, but with bright colors?” Well, of course it would! I was off and running after that!
From the start, we knew we wanted to incorporate as many awesome vendors as possible and a few that maybe were not as well known yet. We also wanted to give everyone as much flexibility as possible to showcase their talents within our theme. We ended up with a truly incredible team and had such a fun afternoon/evening!
The central theme was a bright take on vintage and we added a few bohemian twists as well. One of my favorite design concepts is classic vintage and I absolutely adore some of the more muted tones typically associated with this style. But there was such freedom and fun in going bright with everything! I am itching to help a bride with a bright wedding after this shoot!
I also wanted to keep a focus on playful elements, like the handmade pom poms that we used as a send-off for the bride and groom. Lining up all of our vendor friends to toss those poms (many times) for the perfect shot is definitely one of my favorite memories of the day!
We incorporated lots of found items, like the awesome, colorful afghans I sourced from a few local thrift shops. The combination of these found items with great rentals from UltraPom and several items that we made by hand really pulled our look together.
I guess the moral of the story is- don’t be afraid of bright! The best weddings showcase the personality and style of the bride and groom. I would love to see a playful, happy couple bring a bright vision like this to life for their big day!
