I first met Kathryn when I walked into the basement classroom at the Church of St. Mary on her wedding day. We had talked on the phone multiple times in the planning process and I knew from those calls that she had an amazing energy and spirit about her. A teacher in southwest Missouri, Kathryn had been dating John for 2 years. Since John is a helicopter pilot for the Marines and is stationed in South Carolina, that meant that the majority of their time together has been apart. Their wedding day just couldn’t come soon enough.
When my second photographer, Tricia, and I first pulled onto the campus of Westminster College in Fulton, MO we drove around for a bit looking for the Church. Since the Church of St. Mary is also home to the National Churchill Museum, I passed by it a couple of times. I can’ tell you how excited I was when I realized that the amazing church we passed was the right place for Kathryn and John’s wedding. It was such an amazing church with incredible light and architecture. I only needed about three more hours of photo time to capture it all:) Thank you so much Kathryn and John for inviting us to be a part of your amazing day! Enjoy!
From our gorgeous bride:
Favorite Moment of the Day: John’s eyes piercing mine as he said his vows, the shocking smack on the rear at the end of the sword arch, seeing the Bearshark in the balcony, all of Ric’s (our pastor) sermon…. ALL OF IT! 🙂
Inspiration for the wedding: My love for purple, John’s Naval Academy friends and traditions, our shared love for Christ, respect for the Marine Corps.
Advice to brides planning in the future: Remember that the most important thing is seeing your groom at the alter. My husband is a Marine helicopter pilot stationed in North Carolina, and I was in Missouri our whole dating relationship. I pray for his safety all the time. There is so much to put together in a wedding- relish that once in a lifetime process and ultimately be willing to cast it all aside and just be grateful that the man of your dreams is waiting for you down the aisle.
I couldn’t figure out why everyone was laughing during the ceremony until I looked into the balcony and saw the Bear Shark, John’s mascot from school. Luckily the bear also made an appearance during the party.
Special thanks to my second photographer Tricia Nugen
