One of my favorite things about photographing weddings is the process leading up to the wedding day. It seems odd to think that your photographer would actually enjoy being a part of the planning, but I love having a heads up to all of the elements of the day so that I am completely prepared to capture everything as it unfolds. Of course this process and planning is even sweeter when you know you are working with the best team of wedding professionals possible. If I could clone myself and then hire that clone to plan all of my weddings, her name would be Christine Saxer. This professional wedding coordinator in Kansas City not only keeps me up to date on the important details leading up to the wedding day, but her guidance and work throughout the entire wedding day means that I get to focus on what I love doing the best–taking photos!!!
Because of this I went into Kristina and Calin’s wedding feeling excited that the day would run smoothly. Not only did everything come together perfectly but the weather and the sunshine held out for us and lasted just long enough to capture some lovely sunset portraits and bridal party shots outside before the sun went down. Kristina and Calin are the perfect couple and it was amazing to see them take their long time engagement all the way down the aisle. Enjoy!
Thoughts from our bride Kristina:
Favorite Moment of the Day: There was just a special moment when we pulled up to the church in the limo … and through the crowd of our guests, who were congregating outside, I saw my soon-to-be-husband. First time I had seen him that day. Not quite sure how to describe it, but I just had this feeling come over me and knew he was ‘the one’ … and it immediately brought me back to our first date. He had given me a hug at the end of that evening six years ago … and that was the first time I had ever felt this magical little feeling and knew, right then and there, he was ‘the one.’
Inspiration for the wedding: As I have relatively little ‘bridal DNA’ in my body, I received a great deal of help from my bridesmaids, Maid of Honor, and Christine Saxer (thank you, ladies!). We kept it traditional, classic, elegant … and added thoughtful touches (and surprises for each other and our family) to make us smile as we discovered them throughout the evening.
Advice to brides planning in the future: Enjoy every minute of the planning! Have fun with it and no need to over-analyze the details. Your friends and family are there to spend time and celebrate with you … and they will love whatever you choose (i.e. it’s not about the linens, floral, menu cards …). Make it perfect for the two of you. Something also to consider are dance lessons for your first dance as husband and wife. When everyone thought they were going to have to watch us sway together for 3 ½ minutes, we had a little something choreographed complete with waltzing, twirls and lifts. It also allowed us to have some fun together during the wedding planning process too.
Special thanks to my second photographer Christine May.
